Here we are well into January and I am already feeling behind at the start of 2012– seeing that I intended to write this post over a week ago. A lot has happened with our family since my last post as well as some exciting new developments with the studio. The majority of our family happenings revolved around moving to a new house right before Christmas and then a week of traveling to Michigan over the holidays. I can’t say that moving right before Christmas or 16 hour days in the car with a 4 year old and 1 year old is my idea of fun, but we were happy to see family and this is what memories are made of, right?

On the studio side of things… moving to a new house meant a fabulous new office space for me to meet clients and work from. I’m still trying to get that all put together and will share pictures when it is ready or you can book a session and come see it for yourself. ;-) The most exciting development on the studio front is the addition of my wonderful new studio manager Mieke. I am super excited to have her on board and will be officially introducing her here on the blog next week.

With the start of the new year I have spent some time thinking about what I want 2012 to look like for my family and business and am really excited about the possibilities. There are several things coming up over the next months including my next 101 Class, the Acorn Senior Model program, and 2012 Mini Sessions. First up will be the next 101 Class which covers the fundamentals of how to use your digital SLR camera. The date for this class will be announced here on the blog Monday so stay tuned…

Since no post is complete without images, here are a few images from sessions that took place toward the end of 2011 and never made it to the blog. Check out the Acorn Studio Facebook Galleries if you want to see more.

I was excited to get to meet up with Evelyn and her mommy and daddy for a portrait session while they were going to be in MS visiting family. Evelyn has such personality–and we had some great conversations. The session started off when I arrived to find out that she had tried to style her hair with butter at the dinner table only a few minutes before. Life with little ones is so unpredictable. :-) After a nice hair washing and restyle by mom we began our session outside where Evelyn found a rock to carry around. I asked her if her rock had a name– her response: ‘Chrysanthemum.’  Children’s imaginations and Evelyn’s vocabulary never cease to amaze me. We had a really fun session and I certainly hope this isn’t the last time this sweet family makes an appearance in front of my camera. :-)

I have about 10-12 sessions that I will be blogging over the next couple of weeks and first up is Baby Cara and her big sister Reese. I met the girls along with their mommy and daddy at their beautiful home for Cara’s first photo session. She is such a doll and slept through most of her part of the session. Big sister Reese wasn’t so sure about me at first and the whole picture taking thing but she warmed up and we had quite a bit of fun outside after awhile. Her big soulful eyes in this first shot make me smile. I’m looking forward to getting to know these two girls this year as I will be photographing them throughout Cara’s first year.

Cooper is full of energy and is at a great age where you can carry on quite an interesting conversation– a glimpse into the narrative kids have going on in their head about their world. Luci is a little sweetheart who is fearless once she warms up.
