Can anyone tell me why it is that as soon as 5 o’clock rolls around and I go to the kitchen to begin making dinner my precious 2 year old turns into a monster!? We are talking fits on the floor, wedging herself between me and the counter, saying ‘Mommy up-y, Mommy up-y!’ and my blood pressure heading over the roof. I dread going in the kitchen to try to cook, not because I dislike cooking that much but because I know the war zone I am walking into. As much as I have tried finding something to occupy Emma’s attention while I cook, nothing has seemed to work– until, my life saving friend Meg (yes Meg, life saving) gave me a great idea, one that has worked with her 2 year old. Washing dishes! Why had I not thought of this before?
Now, I push a chair up to the sink, give Emma some of her play dishes, turn on the faucet to a very small steady stream and she ‘washes’ them contently. She would do this for an hour at a time if I let her. Now, I can’t say what my water bill is going to look like this month but I think my sanity is worth it. Now, I have to figure out how to get her to stop ‘washing’ her dishes without throwing a fit. Hmmm…. one battle at a time. :-)
Here is Emma in ‘dish washing’ action…do you think I will be able to get her to do this in 6 years?
